A massive fire erupted at a former bank building in Boyle Heights and authorities say a person of interest is being interviewed. The blaze was reported at around 1:30 p.m. at a vacant, single-story structure located at 1308 S. Soto St, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. AIR7 HD captured intense flames quickly burning through the roof of the building, sending a towering column of thick black smoke into the air.

California lumber mill was ‘a ticking time bomb’ before deadly wildfire began, lawsuit says

Another Weed resident is suing the owner of the lumber mill linked to last month’s deadly wildfire, blasting the company for storing hot ash in a warehouse that burned to the ground. Robert Davies, 61, whose home was destroyed when the Mill Fire spread through Weed, sued Roseburg Forest Products Co., claiming the company failed to install a functioning sprinkler system that could have prevented the disaster.

Los Angeles County: Driver killed as car plunges off cliff in Palos Verdes Estates

VIDEO: A driver was killed after their vehicle plunged several hundred feet off a cliffside in Palos Verdes Estates on Tuesday. The car was found near 2100 Paseo Del Mar, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle lost control and fell about 300 feet off a cliff before crashing on the shoreline.

Survey of firefighters shows benefits of restricted eating during a 24-hour shift

San Diego battalion chief David Picone has been a firefighter for 25 years. He was the department’s point man on a survey that examined how a restricted eating schedule impacted the cardiovascular health of firefighters. He said if you believe that people who work at all hours have to eat at all hours, this study proved that is not true.

Man hospitalized after fire burns Los Angeles County home

A man was seriously injured when a two-story Victorian-style home caught fire early Wednesday in Boyle Heights.. The fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of East 2nd Street. Arriving firefighters found the home’s second floor and attic heavily involved with fire, Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion Chief Kenneth Miller said.

Tool checkout program aims to ease building challenges for residents impacted by Caldor Fire

More than a year after the Caldor Fire, many residents are still recovering. Some are starting to rebuild. For those who are beginning the process of rebuilding, a new resource is now available: A tool checkout program aimed at easing some of the burdens of starting over. “We have anything that anyone could use for a new project up in Grizzly Flats,” said Scot Telfer, the executive director of the West Slope Foundation.
